Your status quo
Do you know this feeling of…
... staring at your screen in frustration because you feel blocked?
... wanting to do focused work but there's always something getting in the way?
... seeking distraction because sticking to it feels too hard?
... guilt whenever you think of what you still need to write?
... having to push through at the end because you kept procrastinating?
My Journey towards finding my focus
I know your struggles...
because I had them too!
Hey! My name is Miriam and I can relate to your feelings and frustrations so much because I've been there too.
I always liked the idea of being a writer, a deep thinker, someone submerged in their thoughts, a creator – but 'liking the thought of' something, I soon realised in my PhD, isn't enough to actually be or become that someone I wished I was.
I also had those lucky moments, of course – those blissful mornings where things would just flow and I'd think 'there we go!', only to lose that flow for weeks afterwards. I thought 'maybe I'm just not that kind of person'. Maybe I'm not meant to be that writer, deep thinker, creator I hoped I would be someday.
Luckily! I got to challenge these thoughts the first time I went on a writing retreat. The retreat wasn't about how to write, but how to feel like a writer. Not in the Jane Austen or Stephen King sense – but as someone who writes scientific articles, LinkedIn posts, code, emails, conference abstracts... We write all the time!
Feeling like someone who takes writing seriously was the mindset shift I so badly needed. What I also needed was a routine, a strong structure, supportive breaks, accountability and community – which I found in the writing groups we formed after the retreat was over.
Our little group (3 people) met for regular 'writing snacks' and experienced deep work magic together. I don't use the word 'magic' often, but I haven't found another word to describe this experience yet. All 3 of us have got our PhD degrees by now, but I'm keeping that spirit alive in my Focus Club. So you can experience the same kind of magic – during our sessions together and beyond. You'll notice that focus comes easier and easier.
What is the WonTime Focus Club & is it right for you?
The WonTime Focus Club brings you weekly online co-working sessions for deep thinking, distraction-free work and long-term projects.
During our sessions, I guide and support you and others through 3 hours of productivity, 2-3 times per week. Over the past few years, I've facilitated more than 300 hours of focus sessions, helping PhDs finish chapters, submit papers, develop code and make consistent progress on their dissertations.
The Club is for PhDs, early-stage career researchers and academics who are determined to start their own focused work journey. Whether you're in your first PhD year, finishing up, or already beyond, my sessions offer you a space to find your focus whilst ensuring that your energy level and motivation stay high.
If you join, you'll experience a depth of thinking and ease of concentration that's been hard to access on your own. You'll no longer hope for focus and wait for the right moment to start your work – you'll know how to create it. You'll have the motivation and mental capacity to simply begin. So you can get more done of what matters to you, in less time and without the stress.
Now, I'd love to be part of your journey too.

The 3 Components of the WonTime Focus Club
How I’ll support you - every week & every month
Getting things done
Everyone working in silence.
This is the major component of the Focus Club. During silent work sessions, you'll work on your own project: a paper you want to submit, a thesis you want to finish, a grant proposal, coding... You choose!
→ Structured deep work sessions to make real progress on your work
Setting realistic goals
You'll learn how to become (more) realistic with your planning.
At the start of each session, we take a round sharing what each of us will work on for the coming 3 hours together. This helps gain clarity, stay committed and allows you to get a feeling for what's possible in 3 hours. You'll be surprised how much you can accomplish working this way.
At the end of each month, we meet for a one hour Reflection & Intention setting session to reflect on the past month and make plans for the coming month.
→ Valuable insights into past progress and obstacles, and the opportunity to define realistic goals
Staying motivated
Sharing accountability & wins.
Working alone, it can be difficult to resist distraction and stick to a task, but knowing what everyone has committed to helps you resist distraction too.
Plus, hearing about others' progress and being cheered on for yours makes it all more enjoyable!
→ Supportive group spirit to celebrate your wins and get you through your challenges

It provides me with inner peace and calmness and gives me the confidence to get big things done - like finishing my dissertation in the past & writing a book now.”
Your Focus Club experience
-
Work on your own and train your prioritisation muscle. I guide you through all sessions and help you stick to your commitments.
-
After each block of 45 minutes, we step away from our screens and take breaks on our own. Get a coffee, eat an apple, walk around - do what you need! Try resist the urge of keep working and checking your phone.. which is yet another screen.
After the 2nd break, I’ll guide you through a stretching or breathing exercise, depending on what you and the group need :)
-
The community aspects plays a big role in our focus sessions. For that I offer monthly lunch break chats.
All optional! Join, if it fits your plans and it feels right :)
-
At the end of a month, we meet for one hour to reflect on the past month and make plans for the coming one.
I provide questions and road maps. This helps you learn more about work style and needs, make realistic plans and get more done of what moves you forward fastest.
The WonTime Focus Club supports you in finding your flow, staying focused and making progress - every week!

Let me share the story of one of the participants of my Focus Club with you: The story of Francisca - in her own words.
Francisca has been part of the Club since 2024.
You might meet her, once you join ♡
“At the beginning of my PhD, a colleague recommended the book Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World. I started reading it in my free time, and it completely shifted my perspective on work routines, taking breaks, and the importance of allowing your mind to both to focus and to wander!
Reading the book made everything sound so logical and doable, but let’s be honest, putting it into practice daily was a different challenge. Later, I joined Miriam’s Time Management course, in which she talked about deep focus sessions and how they could be a game-changer for a PhD. That really stuck with me.
I work in an open space office, so in the beginning, deep work was not easy. My brain wasn’t trained to focus for long periods. The first 45-minute sessions felt endless! But now, a year later, it’s amazing how much has changed. My brain has adapted; it knows how to find that focus for 45 minutes, and I’m no longer seeking distractions or looking at the window. And guess what? Time flies now! 😊
One thing that helped me is writing down what I wanted to accomplish before each unit. Once I write it down, I get more clarity on what I want to accomplish in each session, and checking things off afterwards feels so satisfying.
However, I still struggle with taking breaks. When you’re in the flow and everything is clicking, like Excel results, paper sections, and ideas, it is hard to stop. But trust me, breaks are crucial. Your brain needs them and without them, focus fades quickly. I’ve learned that the hard way.
In my opinion, the best thing about deep work sessions is that you can do them with friends, colleagues, or even family. It is great to share the experience and know someone else is also focused on their tasks at the same time. Then, after the break, you can all relax and chat.
This is my personal experience; just give it a try! It doesn’t hurt, and your PhD (and future career) will thank you for it!”

Curious to find out what your focus story would be?
Let’s find out together:
How does it feel to be in a Focus Session?
I made a podcast episode on the WonTime podcast that resembles the idea of the Focus Session.
Have a listen & get a hands-on experience of what Focus Sessions are like.
The Focus Session I recorded for you is 3 x 25 minutes = 1.5 hours, while the live ones are 3 x 45 minutes and never recorded. It’s a safe and closed space.
Happy Focus!
Do you have questions?
Below you find answers to common questions.
-
The sessions are casual and supportive, but the focus is on focused work time - no networking (introvert friendly ,), just productive time together.
-
I highly encourage cameras on - it creates community and accountability that helps everyone stay focused. But I won't force you. The choice is yours.
-
Getting stuck happens to everyone! I'll give you simple strategies to get unstuck, and you can always step away for a bit if needed. The sessions support you, not stress you out. And if this is a persisting issue for you, I'd invite you to join the next round of my Time Mastery course where we go deeply into managing to-dos and focus.
-
Shouldn't be an issue! While I encourage you to keep your cameras on throughout, I'll never ask you to share your screen! And while at the beginning we all share what we'll be working on, we don't go into details. You share as much as you feel comfortable sharing. You could for example simply say 'I'm working on my data' - and that's good enough :) As long as YOU know what it really is you're working on and as long as you have clarity about your next steps :)
-
Life happens! If you get distracted or need to leave early, that's totally fine. I'll give you strategies to minimise distractions, but the sessions are flexible and supportive. Focus sessions are here to support you, not to imprison you!
During Sessions
-
Life happens! While consistency helps, you're not locked into every single session. Join when you can, and you'll still benefit from the accountability and structure. You have 2 options to participate in the focus sessions - one is the subscription with unlimited access, the other is a 10-session card access. You can see for yourself which option suits your circumstances better and what makes most sense for you.
-
Here is what you can do: let your colleagues know you're in focused work mode, book a quiet room, or work from home. A simple 'Do not disturb - in focused work session until 12pm' sign works wonders.
